IT SEEMS ALONE

The near-dusk sun shines
all the way up the mountain;
it’s a familiar but old sight.
It seems alone.
Much like God.

LESOTHO MOUNTAINS: SEEING THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD

I look out at the fields and mountains,
and I think, “Yes, everyone
is out there, trying
their best.” Sometimes
it makes me remember, sometimes it
makes me forget
the coldness in my feet.

FOR ABSENT FRIENDS

Like a prism, I can see many ways
it could be, many ways it could
work out, perfectly.
They are, more or less, happy
little dreams.

But I have decided
there is no need to reach for them, no need
to strive to make them
come true. I’ll just let them come
unexpectedly. And, if they do come,
I have decided
that I will be pleasantly surprised.
